Rough Clean

The essential first phase of post-construction cleaning, performed after the major construction work is complete but before finishing trades begin their final installations. A rough clean clears the way for painters, flooring installers, trim carpenters, and other finishing trades to work in a clean, safe environment, which directly improves the quality of their finished work.

In Ottawa's busy construction season from April through November, timing a rough clean correctly is critical to keeping your project on schedule. Our crews are experienced with the pace of Ottawa-area construction and can mobilize quickly when your framing, drywall, and mechanical rough-ins are complete. We work closely with your general contractor to slot the rough clean into the project timeline without causing delays to subsequent trades.

The rough clean scope includes removal of all large construction debris such as lumber cutoffs, drywall scraps, packaging materials, and hardware waste. We perform a thorough sweep and vacuum of all floor areas, clean window sills and frames of accumulated dust and debris, and wipe down all rough surfaces to remove the heaviest dust accumulation. Temporary construction materials like sawhorses, material storage, and waste bins are organized or removed as directed by your contractor.

For new builds on Ottawa's clay soils, the rough clean often includes addressing tracked-in mud and clay deposits that accumulate throughout the framing and mechanical phases. Our crews use appropriate techniques to remove clay residue from subfloors without damaging the surfaces that will receive final flooring.

All debris is sorted for appropriate disposal. We follow Ottawa's construction waste bylaws and can coordinate disposal through approved facilities. Recyclable materials including clean wood, cardboard, and metal are separated where practical. This first cleaning phase sets the foundation for a high-quality finish and a smoother final clean later in the project.
